Carcassonne is a 40 minute drive away and is steeped in culture and history. To one side of the town is the fairy-tale citadel perched high above the grassy verges of the River Aude. Running through the centre of the main town is the Canal du Midi. Both are UNESCO World Heritage sites and both attract 100,000's of visitors each year.
The main city of Carcassonne is packed with high quality restaurants, bistros and shops that fill the grid of thirteenth century streets that surround the charming central square. The square hosts a large colourful market on Saturday mornings.
